IC/Switchboard Contract Win
Contributed by Danny Redmon,
Executive Vice President
On August 10, 2012 Valkyrie Enterprises was awarded a $46.6M contract by Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD), to be executed over the next three years. The contract is to provide Switchboard and Interior Communications engineering; software, information assurance and integrated logistics support services. This is a significant milestone for Valkyrie as it is our first major prime contract. In addition to Switchboard and IC Systems support, the contract also provides Local Industrial Facility Services and Technical Manual, Drawings and Configuration Management Support.
Contract efforts are being led by Dave Mortenson, IC/SWBD Program Manager, in Port Hueneme, and is supported by a Program Management Office (PMO) consisting of Dave, Christine Penza, Erica Alveraz, and Shane Baker. The utilization of a PMO to execute the contract was our proposal strategy that resulted in a “Best Value” contract win. With over $7.5M a year in revenue, this effort will result in significant growth for the Technical Services Division. In addition to the four personnel located with the government customer in Port Hueneme, we have recently hired 7 personnel in San Diego and have added several personnel to our Norfolk Technical Services division. As the work continues to expand, future growth for multiple locations is expected.
In addition to work for NSWC PHD, this contract opens the door for work from the Naval Sea Systems Command and Space and Naval Warfare System Command IC programs. Shortly after award of the contract, Valkyrie hosted a day-long conference with NAVSEA, SPAWAR and NSWC PHD in-service personnel for all IC and Switchboard programs. During that conference we presented our approach to the execution of the contract and the government in-service engineering agent personnel discussed their upcoming installation and modernization plans.
Along with the legacy switchboard and interior communications equipment, our team will be providing support to state of the
art communications systems such as Hierarchal Yet Dynamic Reprogrammable Architecture (HYDRA) and Ship Air Traffic Control Communications (SATCC). HYDRA is a COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) wireless communications that interfaces with a ship’s PBX, radio and cellular systems, and replaces sound-powered circuits. It has replaced FDCS, Man On the Move COMmunications (MOMCOM), Damage Control WIre-Free COMmunications (DCWIFCOM) and Protected Voice Personal Communications System (PVPCS) with one integrated wire-free communication system. SATCC is an internal shipboard communications and ATC for aircraft carriers and other types of ship that operate aircraft (fixed- and rotary-wing) and is based on Open Architecture (OA) design.
Again, this is a significant win for Valkyrie! A sincere “thank you” is extended to all involved in helping us win this contract and all who are involved and will be involved in executing the work we were hired to do. We look forward to being able to continue to serve our American war fighters through this contract and we will continue to Hire the Best to Be the Best!
