Help us help a friend...

Please join us in supporting our dear friend, Donna Brooks Dehncke, in her quest to raise awareness and funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America.  Donna and her husband, Rae, proudly support the organization's mission in memory of their daughter, Andrea.  Please read below for a message from Donna; and kindly consider walking with them during the Light the Night Walk on October 19, in Washington, DC, or making a charitable contribution.  Many thanks for your time and consideration!  ~The Valkyrie Team __________________________________

Dear Friends and Family,
This will be  our 10th year to participate in Light the Night, the annual fund raiser for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Rae and  I are thankful for your support over these past years!  We do this in memory of my daughter, Andrea Brooks.  Andrea lost her battle with leukemia 9 years ago.  After our loss, we established our team, “Andrea’s Angels” to join in the fight for a cure.  We feel proud that our contribution to this effort is making a difference! The LLS is making fabulous progress with cures and treatments.   We continually miss Andrea, and feel this is the best way to honor her memory.

For the second year, our Savannah team will join the Northern Virginia team in Washington, DC.  We are very excited to participate in DC, and hope that the location will allow family and friends to join us.  The walk will be held on October 19, 2013, at Freedom  Plaza (13th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue).  Festivities begin at 5PM and the walk will commence at 7PM.  We look forward to an amazing event as Andrea’s Angels join hundreds of others strongly committed to the fight for a cure.  We would LOVE to have you join us!

If you haven’t completed your charitable donations for the year, we ask that you consider making a tax deductible donation in Andrea’s memory to the Leukemia and Lymphoma  Society.  You may donate by inserting this  web site into your browser: http://pages.lightthenight.org/ga/Savannah13/andreasangels

If you have already completed your charitable donations for the year, then please remember Andrea in your thoughts and prayers.

As always, we truly appreciate your caring support,

Donna and Rae

Join the Valkyrie team at one of the Hampton Roads Heart Walks

(Photo taken at last year's Heart Walk at Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach. L-R are Toby and Kim Robillard,
Rick and Linda Shaw, Alona Firmacion, Lesley Washington, Tammy Harrell, Kate and Mindy Green, and Kathy and David Damron.)

For the second consecutive year, Valkyrians are participating in the American Heart Association's Heart Walk.  Did you know that heart disease and stroke are the #1 and #3 killers of Americans?! Designed to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living, the Heart Walk created an environment that's fun and rewarding for the entire family (stroller, rollerblade/skate, and bike friendly!).  Your participation will help us raise even more in the fight to save lives.

This year, there are two Hampton Roads morning walks to choose from.  Visit our Valkyrie team page at http://heartwalk.kintera.org/hamptonroadsva/valkyrieenterprises

On Saturday, September 21, walkers will meet at Mt. Trashmore in Virginia Beach; this team will be led by Lesley Washington.

And on Saturday, October 12, Kate Green will be leading our Peninsula effort at the Peninsula Town Center in Hampton.

Mark your calendars and join a team; be sure to bring your family and friends, too!   We hope to see you there!

If you are unable to make either of the walks but would like to make a donation, please visit our Valkyrie team page.

Not in Southeastern Virginia?!  You can find a Heart Walk near you by clicking here.

Follow-up: Valkyrie Honored onboard the USS Wisconsin

On August 1, Nauticus held a ceremonial unveiling of the “Restore BB 64” recognition stand honoring their 2012 volunteer groups.  Among those being recognized was a group from Valkyrie Enterprises who adopted the ship’s navigation bridge.   In 2012, 625 total members of the “Restore BB 64” program contributed over 6,500 hours to aid in the restoration of the Battleship Wisconsin.

Photographed from left to right are: Kathleen Daniels, who helped coordinate Valkyrie's involvement with the "Restore BB 64" effort, volunteers, Bob Yurchuck (Joanne Brook's brother-in-law), Brian Scheible, Rick Shaw, Kathy Damron, Jeff O’Donnell, Kat Ciesielski, Kate Green and Juli Mansfield, Volunteer Services Coordinator at Nauticus and Battleship Wisconsin.

Many thanks to ALL of our Valkyrie volunteers and your friends and family members who have come to volunteer with you.   We head back onboard in early September and would love to see some fresh faces join our team!
